WOW!MAR 2, 2009 - Otherworldly Solar Eclipse is another gem from NASA. It's the first photograph of a solar eclipse taken by a spacecraft from Earth orbiting another world. The other world is in this case our Moon, and the spacecraft is the Japanese Kaguya lunar orbiter. The photo at the website - there's a movie as well - shows what the last (February 9) lunar eclipse looked like from Kaguya's point of view. To me, it's stunning; all the more so because the February 9 event was a lunar eclipse here on Earth, but a solar eclipse on the Moon. (A terrestrial solar eclipse is likewise an "Earth eclipse" as seen from the Moon.) Getting a feel for the contrasting perspectives provides a seat of the pants sense of the local cosmos.
