MAY 15, 2006 - Film History is a kind of cinematic zodiac. It's a catalog of films grouped by year, covering the period 1920 to 2005 (with a smattering of pre-1920 films). You click on the year you want - the year you were born, for example - and you get a listing of major theatrical releases that year. Given the cinema-centric nature of popular culture nowadays, the films from a given year amount to a gestalt of the mass mind for that year. Contemplate them, study them even: they speak volumes, if you're sensitive to the zeitgeist. And if not . . . well then, it's just a trip down memory lane. (No harm in that!)
