JAN 31, 2005 - Einstein@Home is a website I featured in this space last year, almost exactly six months ago. If you followed my suggestion then to sign up to be notified when Einstein@Home was ready to go, you'd have received email notice by now that the project is presently in shakedown mode and just about ready to go public. I've been using the first test release on one of my PCs for only a matter of hours now, so all I can report is that it appears to be quite stable and compatible with everything else I'm running. Einstein@Home uses the same BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) platform as SETI@Home, and I've been using that on my desktops for nearly a year now with no untoward results. (I don't recommend it for laptops, however.) The screensaver for Einstein@Home is intriguing, the scientific contribution of the project could be significant, and you can be part of it.
