WOW!SEP 30, 2002 - NRAO Very Large Array is the website of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory's Very Large Array radiotelescope field near Socorro, New Mexico. If you saw the Jodie Foster film Contact, you've seen the VLA - although in reality, it's used for radio astronomy and not for SETI (the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence). And don't let the everyday connotation of radio fool you, the astronomers at the VLA aren't hanging out with headphones listening to sounds from space. Actually, radio waves are just another part of the same energy spectrum as light. Radio telescopes capture images invisible to optical telescopes, but they're images just the same. Drop in and enjoy all there is to learn and see at the NRAO Very Large Array, and maybe buy some of their spacey stuff while you're at it. You'll be glad you did - you might even want to stop in for a real life visit!
