SEP 4, 2000 - Ned Wright's Cosmology Tutorial is a good place to start, if you're wondering why there's anything rather than nothing at all. No, Ned doesn't have the answer for you. But he offers some fascinating discussion of many of the questions and discoveries along that line of inquiry. Like, for example the truth about the "faster than light" travel recently reported in Nature magazine. Wright's cosmology FAQ will keep you entranced for long enough to lose track of the difference between white holes and black holes. Which is appropriate, since Professor Wright allows that "the universe could be both a white hole and a black hole at the same time." Once stuff like that gets your mind sufficiently boggled, let Ned suggest some further reading on the mysteries of this wonderful cosmos in and of which we find ourselves.
Technical note: Web Site Garage rates Ned Wright's Cosmology Tutorial excellent over-all, good in load time (15.15 seconds on a 28.8k modem). In comparison, the page you're now reading rates excellent in both categories, loading in 9.66 seconds at 28.8k.
