WOW!OCT 10, 2011 - Comet Garradd, Comet Elenin bids farewell to Comet Elenin, a favorite of conspiracy buffs worldwide since its discovery nearly a year ago now. (It's not like I didn't tell you this was bollocks months ago.) Although officially designated Comet C/2010 X1, this little interloper from the Oort Cloud has been better known to the public as Comet Elenin, in honor of amateur Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin, who first discovered it on December 10, 2011. Panicky conspiracy theory types would have none of that. They were quick to warn a credulous world that Elenin was in fact an acroynm for "Extinction Level Event Near Impact Nibiru", and that the hypothetical planet Nibiru was going to swing through the solar system and wipe out humanity. Thank heaven, we won't have to listen to that silliness anymore, now that the little comet took a hit from a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) back in August, and more or less disintegrated - much to the disappointment of the eager end-timers, I suspect. Perhaps they'll now pounce upon Comet Garradd, which will be visible through a small telescope or binoculars this month as it passes through the constellation Hercules. Lemme see, what will the Chicken Littles christen this one? Perhaps Garradd is an acronym for "God Awful Revelation Rendering Apocalyptic Doomsday Disaster"? Yeah, that sounds about right . . .
