All time and zodiacal position data are computer generated for the alignment of Sun and Moon in ecliptic longitude using Matrix's BLUE*STAR software, with nominal precision to the nearest minute of arc.

There are 36 zodiacal new blue moons in the 20th Century, defined as the second of two consecutive new moons falling in the same (tropical zodiac) sign. They occur in the 29th to 30th degrees of a sign; i.e. from 28d 0m 1s to 29d 59m 59s; generally at intervals of 2-1/2 to 3 years and between the 19th and 24th of the month. There is no instance of two such alignments happening in a single year in the 20th Century, although this does occur in other centuries.

Fourteen of this century's zodiacal new blue moons are also solar eclipses. A total of eight new blue moons are perigee lunations - a lunation which occurs when the Moon is at or near (within 90% or greater) its closest approach to Earth; three of those alignments also happen to be solar eclipses.

There are at this moment only about six million people now living who were born on the day of this type of blue moon, and only about a million of them actually have the moon in the last two degrees of a sign. If your birthday happens to be listed in this table, you're a true 'once in a blue moon' person - and a rare breed indeed. And if your natal moon is in the last two degrees of a sign as well - then you're really one in a million!
